**For Summer semester use the Special Term/Short Course Report to see deadlines.

The first date to withdraw from individual courses is the first class-day immediately after the drop deadline for full semester courses. The last date to withdraw from individual courses or request a complete schedule withdrawal from the Office of the Registrar is the Friday prior to Final Exam week. Respective full semester course withdrawal deadlines are published on the Office of the Registrar website.

After your initial registration, you may need to add, drop or withdraw from a class. Generally, all of those actions can be completed in Ursa and each item has potential implications for financial aid, tuition and your transcript.  If you're thinking about any of these adjustments, remember to watch the deadlines!

  • Dropping a Class

    info Did you know...

Dropping a class and withdrawing from a class are two very different things. If you drop a class before the drop deadline, the class won’t appear on your transcript and you won’t be charged any tuition or fees. There’s no impact on your GPA.

If you want to drop a full-semester class

You may drop classes in Ursa through the 10th day of the semester.

If you want to drop a Special Term/Short Course

You may drop Special Term/Short Courses in Ursa through the drop deadline of the course. Select the Your Course Drop/Withdrawal deadline link in your URSA to determine the drop deadline for a course. Note: It’s your responsibility to know when the drop deadlines for your classes are.

If you registered, but don’t attend your class

In some cases, instructors will drop you from a class if you don’t attend the first two hours. However, it’s your responsibility to follow the drop procedure and not assume your instructor will drop you automatically.

For additional information, please visit the University catalog

If you have a hold on your account

If you have a hold on your account that prevents you from dropping or withdrawing, you must contact the Registrar’s office no later than 5 p.m. on the day of the deadline.

For a complete withdrawal from UNC, see the section on  Withdrawing From All Classes.

    Full-Semester Classes

You may withdraw from individual classes in Ursa through the Course(s) withdrawal deadline.

You will still be charged tuition and fees.

    Special Term/Short Courses

You may withdraw from any course through the Course(s) Withdrawal deadline for that course.  Select the 'Your Course Drop/Withdrawal' deadline link on the student tab of your URSA to determine the withdrawal deadlines for your courses.
